I am not a Superhero

I am not a superhero but at times I wish I were. My name is Diana Mia Marte, 20 year old college student from the Dominican Republic, but currently living in the soon to be Ex-capital of the world. Being a first (or maybe 2nd) generation immigrant in NYC is a book on its own. I don’t intend on having all the answers or saving the world but I will always try to ask question and push the envelope.

Being an "alien" affects everything I do. The way I walk, they way I dress, the way I eat, who I date, and who I mingle with and specifically who I have become in the past 12 years of living in the U.S. of A. Born to a Dark skin Dominican mother and a Light-skin Dominican father also makes me unique, lets face it I was mixed in with the best stuff on earth. Not only is it the perfect blend but also it allows me to be part of two worlds that were created by the ignorance of people.

Being a young adult there are things that I am becoming more aware of that I did not care a rat’s ass about when I was 12 and still playing with my miniature toy cars. Things like racism the one power that still prevails in America, love, and interracial dating. These ideas for some reason are very prominent in my everyday struggle to stay sane in a world of bombarded by war, and unreliable media and tabloid that apparently are becoming the media outlet for some people.

So, the focus hopefully, Love and the power of Race, which includes true love, the meaning of love, interracial love, the invisible white power, immigration and other topics that I am sure will arise once my brain and my finger tips connect.
